About

This blog is about the issues I believe are central to life in our city, or any community for that matter. At the center of that is our transportation network and the modes by which we connect to our jobs, schools, family, friends - to our lives outside the home. I believe in our right to live in communities that provide us options for that transportation and do not sacrifice our health, safety, or mobility to convenience one mode over another. It is important for us to remember that we build these networks to serve people, and not the cars, trains, or buses that move along them.

But this blog is about more than simply transit and transportation. It is about the way we construct our communities and relate to one another. It's about how our networks and built environment influence our community interactions and local economies. I believe in the value of a strong community at the neighborhood level, and that includes everything from housing to retail to restaurants. We live in an amazing part of a world-class city. This blog aims to celebrate the things that make our community great, but also to point out ways that we can improve upon it and knit our communities closer together. In this blog I hope to explore these themes in more detail, particularly in Brooklyn, but also in New York City and beyond.
